SWR 3/4, Mon. 9/24/18
Hi,
This week we begin the spelling lists so the format of our class time and homework is changing. Each list has 20 words. I will introduce the first 10 words on Monday and they will be tested on Wednesday. I will introduce the second half of the list on Wednesday. Students will be tested on the second half of the list on Monday.
Because of the wide range of ages and abilities in this class I am going to teach 2 different lists. One group will be starting at L-1 and one group will be starting at P-1. See your student's spiral for their spelling words.
Exciting news! After this week we will be converting completely to cursive. It will take some patience for some of the students but before long it will not be a problem for any of them. Please watch their formation of letters. Thank you!!!!
Today we reviewed the multi letter phonogram from list A - I. I introduced the cursive x and y. We reviewed rules 1- 2 and I added rule 13. I introduced the first 10 words of list L-1 and P-1.
Homework for Wed. 9/26/18:
- Finish page 24 in cursive.
- Review phonograms the multi letter phonograms from list A - I.
This should be done at least once daily on school days.
- Review rules 1- 13
- Using the very next page of their spiral notebook, students should write their spelling words 3 times each with markings. Words should be separated into syllables as they are in their spiral. Be sure they vocalize the sounds of the phonograms as they write them.
- Use the their spelling words in sentences. Be sure to underline the spelling word in each sentence. Feel free to put more than one spelling word in a sentence.
- Write spelling words in ABC order.
- Pretest - give your student a pretest on these words and if they missed any, please have them practice those 3 times each at least.

Hi,
Today we reviewed the first 26 phonograms (a-z) and the multi letter phonograms from list A - I. We reviewed rules 1- 11 and I introduced rule 12. I introduced the lower case n , m and v in cursive. We did a diagnostic and we worked on the vowel page in the learning log.
Homework for Monday, 9/24/18:
- Finish pages 22-23 in cursive.
- Write neatly in cursive the following:
flashlight, mountains, sunshine, kickball, manners, rainbow, jump rope, waist
- Put the above words in ABC order. I meant to discuss that today but we ran out of time. It should not be a big problem for most of the students. If it is an issue, they can pass on this assignment.
- Do the worksheets - Click on worksheet below.

Hi,
Today we reviewed the first 26 phonograms (a-z) and the multi letter phonogram from lists A - H-1 and I added H-2. We reviewed rules 1-9 and I added 10. I introduced the large petal stroke and the letters p, r, s, and t. We worked in the learning log on the multi letter phonogram page.
My plan is to begin the spelling lists on 9/24. The class and homework format will change quite a bit. I will be sending more information on this next week. In the meantime, please be working hard at home on the multi letter phonograms.
Homework for Monday, 9/17/18:
- Finish page 19 and 20 in cursive.
- Write neatly in cursive in your spiral the following words.

Today we reviewed the single letter phonograms and the multi letter phonograms from list A - D. I introduced the multi letter phonograms from list E. I introduced e, l, b and f i cursive. We worked more on the vowel/consonant page and we added to the the multi letter phonogram page in the learning log. We reviewed rules 1-7 and I added rule 8.
Homework for Mon. 9/10/18 is:
- Cursive - finish pages 16 and 15.
- Write the following silent final e words in cursive . Be sure to mark them.
bale, hole, face, lace, gape
- Review all single letter phonograms and the multi letter phonograms from list A - E.
- Review rules 1-7. (There are 5 different silent final e rules that are all included in rule 7)
- Do attached worksheets and bring to class. Attachment is to the right.
